Outside Magazine’s readers are adventure enthusiasts and gear fanatics. In 2008, a decision was made to open up coveted product testing opportunities to qualified readers, building a volunteer gear army of brand loyalists in the process. A summit is both a meeting place of accord and a high point – the highest peak of a mountain. Outside Summit was launched with these two, closely-related meanings in mind. The successful launch campaign ran in book and online over several months. It crystallized a community of honored volunteers to not only test products, but advocate with an authentic voice.
